Photos: Kebbi Residents Gather As They Watch Elephants Invade Their Community

The residents of Koko Besse local government area of Kebbi state, are pictured as they gathered to watch the elephants that invaded their community yesterday.

It was gathered that the elephants would have been killed by the villagers but they could not harm them for fear of being jailed because the Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu had initially warned them to desist from killing the animals.

This warning came after an ‪elephant was caught last year in the state before it was killed and butchered by the villagers who trooped to the Kebbi State Government House with pride to present the slaughtered elephant’s Tusks to their Governor, thinking that they had successfully defended their territory from a single invading elephant but instead chastised by the Governor who gave them educational lecture, interspersed with threats of imprisonment.

According to report, after the three elephants were spotted, the Koko LG authorities assisted by security forces in the area successfully mobilized the community that helped in securing the animals to keep them away from the usual threats from hunters in order to avoid the wrath of the governor.
