Photos Of The Bird That Flew 'From University Of Finland' To Jigawa In Nigeria


According to online report, a bird known as the Western Osprey (Pandion Haliaetus) that is rare in Niger, was recently caught on Thursday, 25th of October 2018, at Malam Madori, Jigawa State.

As shared on popular social media platform Facebook, Abubakar S. Ringim, a graduate of Zoology, one of the persons that caught the bird also known as sea hawk or fish hawk, it is purportedly owned by the University of Helsinki, Finland, as a ring bearing the information was spotted on one of its legs.


While sharing photos of the rare bird that was later released and allowed to fly at the Baturiya Wetland Reserve in Jigawa on Facebook, Abubakar S. Ringim wrote;

"Osprey Pandion halietus caught on 25/10/2018 at Malam Madori, Jigawa State. The bird came from University of Helsinki, Finland. Available records from the University revealed that the bird was ringed 106 days prior to its caught in Jigawa, and covered 5808 kilometers during it's migration to winter in Africa, in particular, Nigeria. The bird were celebrated and successfully released today at the Baturiya Wetland Reserve in Jigawa."
